AI Visibility Tools, Compared

AI visibility tools run a fixed prompt set against assistants and record which domains each answer cites. They differ on assistant coverage, prompt limits, export and price — and none of them covers off-site corroboration or crawler access. Filter the comparison below by the assistants you need. Manual runs remain necessary for Meta AI and Grok.

What AI visibility tools actually measure

AI visibility tools run a prompt set against assistants on a schedule and record which domains each answer cited. They measure citation rate and share of voice. None of them changes visibility; they report it.

Citation monitoring is the category name for platforms that automate that recording. A prompt set is the fixed list of questions a platform sends to each assistant — 25 prompts on the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit, 15 on Otterly.AI's entry plan, 350 custom prompts on Scrunch's. Share of voice is the proportion of answers across that set citing one domain rather than a competitor's. Three categories of instrument exist: citation monitoring platforms, crawler log analysers, and manual prompt runs. Citation monitoring platforms sample answers. Crawler log analysers read a server's own access record and count requests from named AI agents. Manual prompt runs put a person in front of an assistant with the same fixed list. All eight platforms compared below sit in the first category. A platform measures citation rate. It alters nothing about the page that earns the citation.

What no tool currently covers

Three areas stay unmonitored: off-site corroboration across directories and forums, the accuracy of what assistants say about a business, and crawler access verified from server logs. Each requires separate checking.

Three gaps, in the order a business meets them:

  • Off-site corroboration.Directory listings, forum threads and third-party profiles are sources assistants read when assembling an answer about a business. No platform in the set inventories them. The matrix reports citations to your domain, never pages about you that you do not own.
  • Accuracy.SE Visible publishes sentiment alongside brand mentions. Sentiment records tone, not fact: a wrong phone number and a correct one both read as neutral. Nothing in the set flags a price, address or service area contradicting the business.
  • Crawler access.A crawler log is the server record naming every automated agent that requested a page. Otterly.AI publishes an agent-analytics allowance of 1,000,000 events per month on Premium, on its own instrumentation. No vendor page checked publishes ingestion of a server's access log — the record showing whether GPTBot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot got a 200 or 403.

All three belong in an audit of machine readability, not a dashboard.

When a manual prompt run is still necessary

Manual runs cover assistants without stable APIs, currently Meta AI and Grok. They also verify a tool's output. Running ten prompts by hand each month catches reporting errors that automated dashboards repeat silently.

The published coverage counts confirm the gap. Grok appears in 1 of the 8 feature sets — Rankscale. Meta AI appears in 1 — Scrunch. Six vendors publish neither assistant, which leaves a business on any of those six blind to both surfaces. A manual run closes that gap with three inputs: a fixed list of ten prompts, a signed-out browser session per assistant, and a dated log recording every cited domain. Ten prompts across Meta AI and Grok take under an hour a month. The second use is verification. A platform that samples one answer per prompt per day reports a citation rate from one draw, and a hand-run of the same prompt exposes the variance that a single daily sample hides. The full procedure, including the log format, sits in how to measure ai visibility.

How to choose between them

Four criteria decide: which assistants are covered, how many prompts the plan permits, whether raw results export, and whether historical data is retained. Coverage matters more than dashboard design, because an uncovered assistant is invisible.

Apply the criteria in order against the tables.

  1. Coverage.

Name the assistants your buyers use, then delete every row missing one. Grok narrows the set to 1, Meta AI to 1, Claude to 4.

  2. Prompt allowance.

Divide the allowance by the questions a buyer asks. 15 prompts on Otterly.AI's Lite covers one service line; 1,000 on SE Visible's Plus covers a multi-location business.

  3. Export.

Raw rows make the numbers auditable. Semrush caps CSV export at 1,000 rows and 10 exports a day; Rankscale adds Google Sheets and an API.

  4. Retention.

Profound names all-time history on Enterprise and none on Trial. The other seven pages named no retention window.

Four purchase shapes follow. Rankscale and Scrunch publish the widest assistant lists. Semrush and SE Visible pair export with a $99 entry. Otterly.AI publishes the set's lowest entry, $29 against 15 prompts. The fourth replaces the dashboard with a delivered result: weekly citation tracking run as a service.

Questions

Common questions

Every answer below ships in the raw HTML, so an assistant reading this page without running a script still receives it.

Do any of these tools improve AI visibility on their own?

No. All eight measure and report. Changes to citation rate come from the pages, the schema and the off-site sources an assistant reads. A subscription records the score, never moves it.

How many AI visibility tools cover every major assistant?

Zero of the eight. Rankscale publishes 6 of the 7 compared, missing Meta AI. Scrunch publishes 6 of 7, missing Grok. No vendor page checked on 21 September 2026 publishes all seven.

What does a prompt limit actually restrict?

The number of distinct questions a platform re-runs on every scheduled check. A 25-prompt plan tracks 25 questions across every assistant and country covered. Rankscale meters runs in credits: 1,200, 5,500 and 12,000 per month.

Why do vendors publish different assistant lists for the same price?

Assistant access differs by interface. ChatGPT and Perplexity are reachable on every platform in the set. Grok and Meta AI appear on 1 platform each — the signature of an assistant without a stable API.
